India is considering field trials of genetically engineered rice. Last year US rice was heavily contaminated with an unapproved variety of genetically engineered rice.
All over the world, US rice was pulled from shelves because consumers like me don’t want to eat genetically engineered foods. It is expected that the costs of the contamination will exceed a billion dollars.
GE Field trials are risky business. GE contamination cannot be prevented – and once it occurs the damage can be severe and long lasting.
Indian rice is world famous for its quality and integrity.
Please keep it that way - don't allow GE field trials in India.
